Race-Class-Narrative: An answer to the culture war from the right?

The right has been on the rise ever since it succeeded in portraying all those who stand for progress and justice as a “woke elite” who want to impose their way of life on “ordinary people”. They pit white workers against immigrant and post-migrant workers, ecological against social, hey incite fear and division – racism is their most powerful tool to prevent social progress for all.

A compelling narrative to resist this right-wing narrative is lacking so far. In a workshop, Funmibi Ogunlesi and Alex Leon from the British New Economic Organizers’ Network (NEON) present the race-class narrative, an approach that could be an answer to the culture war from the right. The communications concept was developed after Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory in the U.S. and has since been used and developed with success in many progressive campaigns in various countries. NEON provides training, networking and consulting for social movements in the UK and works with the race-class narrative.

The culture war narrative is used by right-wingers right around the globe; to effectively thwart their strategy, we need to learn from each other. In the workshop, we therefore want to test the race-class narrative in practice with activists from social movements, movement organizations and trade unions and to discuss whether the concept can also be an inspiration in Germany.

The number of participants is limited to 10 persons, therefore registration is necessary.
